Picking up speed

A new way to donate… AND A VIDEO!

Our attempt on The Grim Challenge for CANCER RESEARCH UK using a more extreme variant Nordic Walking is going pretty well. Sure we’d like to see more sponsors and donations, but it’s early days and we’re both training to make sure we don’t let anyone down.

I’ve added a method to make donating really easy now. You just need to use your mobile phone and text STIX99 and a donation amount (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10) to 70070.

Meanwhile, along with cardio and endurance training, I’ve thrown together a little video to promote our challenge. It’s only a first attempt and I plan to make another (more?) as time goes on.

It is for Cancer Research UK, although they support the worldwide fight against cancer and are simply based in the UK, so to everyone out there, where ever you are, please do donate and share this page. It’s for a very good cause after all.

After seeing Kate Smurthwaite shut down one of her counterparts in a religious debate (she was representing the National Secular Society), I came up with this new image.

Before posting it, I sent it to her to see if she was okay with it.

She replied saying that she loved it – and that she had also sent it to Nicky Campbell (the show host). I highly recommend looking her up.

BBC – The Big Questions

King George V playing field in Farnborough is a great place to take kids. It has by far the best playground I have seen, and more importantly – Alex loves it.

It has some weird things to play on – spring mounted surf board, trampoline holes, multiple slides, odd rails with fixed skateboard things on… loads of stuff… and a massive tyre swing…. MASSIVE.

It was a bit tricky pushing, ducking, darting and filming – and I was pretty knackered from getting the hefty thing up to speed… but I managed to grab some film of Alex being a racing driver (his words).

The tune is a sample mix overlay I put together again… sorry!

Mr Tweet & Minesweeper – The Movie

Every now and then something on YouTube turns out to be genuinely funny – and not just some junk that some dope has mashed up with a low resolution camera phone.

Minesweeper – The Movie is one of those clips.

It was an odd stumbling that lead me to find the clip – one of those link to a link to a link to a link….

It started when Twitters directory went down, which left me unable to search for people to follow. This lead to me looking on Google for a secondary Twitter based directory.

Google pointed me to MrTweet – a Twitter feed that looks at your own Twitter feed and suggests other feed that you might be interested in (among other things – but this isn’t about the great MrTweet, so I won’t go into that in this blog entry).

The MrTweet information gave me a whole list of names based on people I follow and the people who are followed by the people I follow (and maybe the people who are followed by the people that are followed by the people I follow… and maybe even……..ad lib and fade). MrTweet was a good find though – so take a look.

One of the names it suggested was “hexadus” (apparently currently making millions in the philosophy industry).

I started to follow hexadus and soon saw a re-posted post (re-tweeted or just rt) that one of his followers had posted. This other Tweeter was “Jimbo724” and the original tweet he had posted that hexadus had then re-tweeted was a spoof based on the “wrong side of the tracks boy who the posh girl falls for” type movies… it was about CHESS.

So…. I take a look at the chess YouTube clip that hexodus had re-tweeted from Jimbo724’s tweet, and after watching it (and physically laughing out loud) I saw a “related video” listed in the YouTube menu…. which was Minesweeper – The Movie – and there we are.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that at not one point in this blog post did I say this was going to be interesting, so I apologise for nothing!

Hugh Dennis – Very funny, now move along.

Okay – just a little rant. A very little one, but I need to get it off of my chest.

It is neither topical or relevant, but as I watch TV it just needs to be said (well, I need to say it!)

Hugh Dennis is a very funny man – I grant him that, but there is one thing that over time has gradually wound me up about him.

Mock The Week” is the most obvious place to see this one thing…

When the game comes up where each of the four contestants each have to take a moment at the mic, Hugh Dennis becomes irritating – no offence Hugh.

He is often the funniest person when he says his bit, but the irritation then smacks in rapidly, as after he has made his quip, he just stands there, soaking in the camera and applause like some egotistic arse.

See the image above…. it’s actually a YouTube clip of “Mock the Week” just after Hugh Dennis has told a joke… Yes – really…it’s playing as you watch it…

I know there is comedy timing – but he just stands there a little too long after the joke has been made. It happens on a lot of things he is in – he just says a line and then mugs for the camera. “Mock the Week” simply highlights this as the stand up quick fire round sees Hugh Dennis repeatedly walking to the mic, spilling out comedy gold, and then standing for an eternity, gurning at the camera.

Hugh – you don’t need to do this – you’re a funny man. I love your TV and radio work – The Now Show  is one of the greatest radio shows out – but this trait is so damned annoying!!!! I anticipate your humorous wordage…. I then laugh out loud as you delivery the lines… and then I cringe (as you would when a relation does something embarrassing at a social gathering) as you gurn and hold the mic as if it is the last time you’ll ever get the chance.

You’d never see a velociraptor hang around gurning…
