Children in Need FAIL

Good grief…

BBC news had story about a youth disco/club venue that is being shut down because of the underage drinking & fighting it caused…. and then within 5 minutes they show a clip for Children in Need where they want our money to fund a disco/club venue to keep kids off of the street & away from underage drinking & fighting….

Which one is it you want?

Okay, I think there are some charities that deserve my money -BUT I’m growing to hate the big events that take our charitable donations and give it to unworthy causes.

For charity, my money goes direct to the cause I support. I’m not letting some huge event organisation distribute it for me… and tonight on BBC News my beliefs have been well a truly cemented. I was disgusted – well and truly disgusted…. maybe I’m just getting old, but there is no way Children in Need are getting my money.

So there I was watching the BBC and that Children in Need advert I mentioned at the start came on. This concentrated on funding a disco/club venue for kids not having anything to do apart from go out and cause trouble – “because there’s nuffink else to do, so we, ya know, just get our kicks and cause trouble..”

They aren’t wanting for money as they currently DO go out drinking, smoking, (some do drugs) fighting – all because they supposedly have nothing to do! For God’s bloody sake! Every year there is more and more for people to do! When my Dad was growing up in the 1920’s & 30’s he had more to do than his Dad. When I was growing up there was an even bigger leap of things for me to do than the gap between my Dad and Granddad! Now Alex is growing up…and if he ever says there isn’t anything for him to do I’ll be amazed! There is so much to do!

I wasn’t even into computers so much back when I was a kid. I’d go out and play around with my mates in a local forest. Proper stuff – tree climbing! war games (no paint ball back then though – we had to pretend!)! ride bikes & make jumps! I’d go to the local swimming pool or sports centre. I had plenty of hobbies and things to do…. I had far, far less to do than kids have to do now!

So… there is no way on earth that I’ll give money to keep yobs off of the streets just because they say it is the lack of stuff to do that leads them to cause trouble! There is plenty to do, but the kids can’t be bothered to do them and just use this pathetic excuse to hide behind.

Teenage pregnancy is another thing I really don’t want my cash going on. Once more, compared to “my day” and my Dad’s day, there is so much more information about sex available that I shouldn’t have to fund little miss bored and little miss stupid. Yes – accidents might happen – and I’m sorry for those kids, BUT most of the time these aren’t accidents – they are just lazy, arrogant kids who think they know better. If the kid gets in trouble, then let the parents sort it out – because I put a lot of the blame on them.

This might rub a few people up the wrong way – but we are being to bloody soft nowadays. I’m sorry you had to mug an old lady because you were bored – here… have some money. You have to rob a house to get your drug and beer money because there’s absolutely nothing to do… my heart bleeds for you.

I pay my taxes which goes towards the benefits these people get anyway – and I have no choice where that goes… so there is no way I’m giving more away to them.

Where I can, I’ll place my charity directly where I want it to go. If I want to help real children in need (because I’m not dumb and DO realise there are many that are in genuine need!), then I’ll pay it direct to the supporting group.

Children in Need – you pushed this one out of me – Hope this helps you.

Morning!

Morning!, originally uploaded by L.B.

As this blog is for junior, I feel that he/she should know that mum is not getting much sleep whilst you do your exercises…which means when mum doesn’t sleep…then neither does your dad…Remember that when we wake you up at 8am on a weekend and you moan that it’s too early! We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Apart from the sleep bit!

A quick review…

Right…by popular demand here is a run down of the last few months…well…yearish…
I had a plan. Chris and I wanted kids, and I wanted that to happen away from Portsmouth. I wanted to move to my home town area (Fleet/Farnborough), as it has better schools, hospitals and general environment (like TREES and OPEN SPACE!!!!).
The plan was that we move to Farnborough, I carry on working in Portsmouth (travel daily) until I get a job up in Farnborough area. Once we were settled, we would try for a baby.
What happened was this: Whilst still living in Portsmouth I was doing some work for my then employer at Southampton Airport. An aircraft had some propeller damage and I was sent to assess it. I got chatting with the guy who was there with the aeroplane and mentioned my plan. He said his company was hiring, and mentioned that another company (based on Farnborough Airport) was also hiring. I arranged an interview at the Farnborough company. 1 month late and I was working on Farnborough Airport (working on Air Ambulance aircraft and Executive light aircraft).
Right…so the plan was working, but a little bit out of order, but hey…living in Portsmouth and traveling to Farnborough would just be like living in Farnborough and traveling to Portsmouth. It wouldn’t be for long anyway….we’d have a house soon, and then start the family.
After 3 months I had passed my probation period, so put our house on the market, as the job was now solid. After getting some interest in our house we started trying for a family. It only takes a few months to buy and sell a house, so there was no issue with timing.
FLY-FASTER
Some light hearted inflight entertainment to take the edge off of this blog post. One of my early photoshops.
BEALES estate agents and Country Wide Property solicitors….LEAVE WELL ALONE….The house move was taking far too long…we lost the first house we wanted to move into back in November as our chain was taking too long. Back in November we were told…TWO WEEKS AND YOU’LL BE IN. It took so long that we lost that first house. Luckily we found a second one within a week. REMEMBER, they said it would only take a couple of weeks to sort everything out, well it is now March….we don’t have a clue as to what is going on.
We were told in January that we would complete the sale on the end of the week. As such, I bought new beds and furniture to be delivered to our new house for mid January. I also bought a futon for the spare room, which I took straight away, as we would use this for few days until the move.
Nearer to the move date I cut up the old bed and gave my brother in law the furniture (still no thanks there, but that’s another story). Directly after cutting the bed up I received a phone call…The move was off. Lies down the chain. The move was pushed on a few days…then a week…then weeks. We have now had to re-advertise the house as Chris is now 33 weeks pregnant, and we still have no idea of a move date. Worse still, since Jan, we have been sleeping on nothing but a small futon, living in a house of boxes.
Other news….It looks as if baby was conceived on the Bisley weekend where we both won trophies for our shooting. A good weekend all round then!!!
Now I find myself still in Portsmouth, sleeping on a rock hard futon with my 33 week pregnant wife. I drive on average 3 hours a day, spending over £300 per month on things I wouldn’t need if we had moved already (Fuel, storage bills etc). Chris is tired because of the pregnancy, and I am tired due to the hours I work and the commute. We wake at 5am to feed the pets, eat breakfast and get me out of the door for a 7am start in Farnborough. I get home (on a good day) at around 7pm…so we don’t get to spend a lot of time together awake.
