Spooky Veg* Night 2010

Aside from Christmas and his birthday, Halloween is Alex’s favourite occasion. It’s quite good that the NCS at Bisley has its firework display around this time as well, as it really gets the little lad excited.

This year he had his first go at one of the fairground stalls at Bisleys display. It was one where you throw a ball and if you hit the object you win it. £2 for one go (in aid of the UK rifle team)…. We paid our £2… Alex (now 4 1/2yrs old) took aim, threw the ball… and won a toy. Great shot – square on!

The fireworks were brilliant – if a little on the short side, but made up for in sheer style and music. I don’t have any worthy photo’s, but hey… you know what fireworks look like by now…

2009

Anyway, that was yesterday! Today is Halloween and the time of year when I DO not want to see another pumpkin for at least another year… because it’s the time of year when Alex sets me a carving challenge! Last year was The Mini…

This year he chose Spongebob Squarepants. He didn’t want scary pumpkins because he thought they might come alive like in Monsters versus Aliens…

So… Spongebob, Patrick and Gary got carved….

*P.S: I know Pumpkins are fruits, but Scary Fruit sounded a bit un-PC….

Mind you… Scary Veg isn’t much better….

From Guns to the X-Factor to Augmented Reality

Flickr reorganised my photo’s & broke picture links….

So… let’s try again – and this time with an update & more pictures!

I was on the lookout for some captioned t-shirts recently and just couldn’t find what I wanted. In the end I found a place that allows you to design your own… and sell them if you want.

Well, I purchased the one I wanted (after designing it…) – and once it arrived I was impressed by the print quality and the actual quality of the t-shirt. I then went back to the store and looked into how to sell my designs, after all, why not?

Since then I have added several designs – including a mug and notebook case to go with all the shirts…

If you like any of them, go to http://sometimespace.spreadshirt.co.uk/ and have a shop around… if you can’t find what you want, I might be able to sort something out for you (if you don’t want to do it yourself!).

I started out with some shooting orientated ones and then added a few more various others…These are a few of the designs…

SOMETIMESPACE – THE SHOP

Click the shop link above to buy any of the items below! These designs are on shirts, bags, mugs, bumper stickers…. Go for it! Alex needs new shoes!

Fire in the skies

Alex attended his first fireworks display tonight. It was held at the National Shooting Centre at Bisley (NRA).

Chris drove us to the event – I was doped up with pain killers, even though it was only a short journey. A 30 minute trip out the other day as passenger was enough for me to think twice about getting in a car at present.

It was only £4 per adult – and Alex was free. The show was set to music and went on for close to half hour. What a display! I have never seen one like it. It was so well timed with the music and the fireworks were impressive to say the least…. not that I watched much of them, as I was close to tears at how much Alex was enjoying himself!!!! I have never seen him so excited – not even half as excited!!!

Before the show we bought him an LED windmill thing – Lot’s of these LED type toys were for sale, so there were no sparklers (all very safe). Alex loves his windmill and as soon as we gave it to him, it stayed with him until he went to bed!!!

During the show itself I wasn’t sure if he was louder than the fireworks or not! He was grinning and laughing like a maniac!!!

Unfortunately I wasn’t that stable with the camera as my head was a bit fuzzy from the pills, but if you click on one of the pictures you’ll be taken to the album where you can see some of the fireworks and some of Alex’s expressions!

iPhone with Flickr and WordPress blogging – a great combination!

NSRA/Eley results

I’m pretty happy with12th in class considering the medical issue with my hands. I know where I lost a few places, but all in all out of the several hundred that entered, I still rank 34. So mustn’t grumble…especially with the typical wind, calm and rain of Bisley!

Thanks to Ali A for taking my picture and generally keeping me calm by his presence in these less than ideal conditions….and congratulations to him for getting 3rd in class (even if it did mean he beat me!)

A quick review…

Right…by popular demand here is a run down of the last few months…well…yearish…
I had a plan. Chris and I wanted kids, and I wanted that to happen away from Portsmouth. I wanted to move to my home town area (Fleet/Farnborough), as it has better schools, hospitals and general environment (like TREES and OPEN SPACE!!!!).
The plan was that we move to Farnborough, I carry on working in Portsmouth (travel daily) until I get a job up in Farnborough area. Once we were settled, we would try for a baby.
What happened was this: Whilst still living in Portsmouth I was doing some work for my then employer at Southampton Airport. An aircraft had some propeller damage and I was sent to assess it. I got chatting with the guy who was there with the aeroplane and mentioned my plan. He said his company was hiring, and mentioned that another company (based on Farnborough Airport) was also hiring. I arranged an interview at the Farnborough company. 1 month late and I was working on Farnborough Airport (working on Air Ambulance aircraft and Executive light aircraft).
Right…so the plan was working, but a little bit out of order, but hey…living in Portsmouth and traveling to Farnborough would just be like living in Farnborough and traveling to Portsmouth. It wouldn’t be for long anyway….we’d have a house soon, and then start the family.
After 3 months I had passed my probation period, so put our house on the market, as the job was now solid. After getting some interest in our house we started trying for a family. It only takes a few months to buy and sell a house, so there was no issue with timing.
FLY-FASTER
Some light hearted inflight entertainment to take the edge off of this blog post. One of my early photoshops.
BEALES estate agents and Country Wide Property solicitors….LEAVE WELL ALONE….The house move was taking far too long…we lost the first house we wanted to move into back in November as our chain was taking too long. Back in November we were told…TWO WEEKS AND YOU’LL BE IN. It took so long that we lost that first house. Luckily we found a second one within a week. REMEMBER, they said it would only take a couple of weeks to sort everything out, well it is now March….we don’t have a clue as to what is going on.
We were told in January that we would complete the sale on the end of the week. As such, I bought new beds and furniture to be delivered to our new house for mid January. I also bought a futon for the spare room, which I took straight away, as we would use this for few days until the move.
Nearer to the move date I cut up the old bed and gave my brother in law the furniture (still no thanks there, but that’s another story). Directly after cutting the bed up I received a phone call…The move was off. Lies down the chain. The move was pushed on a few days…then a week…then weeks. We have now had to re-advertise the house as Chris is now 33 weeks pregnant, and we still have no idea of a move date. Worse still, since Jan, we have been sleeping on nothing but a small futon, living in a house of boxes.
Other news….It looks as if baby was conceived on the Bisley weekend where we both won trophies for our shooting. A good weekend all round then!!!
Now I find myself still in Portsmouth, sleeping on a rock hard futon with my 33 week pregnant wife. I drive on average 3 hours a day, spending over £300 per month on things I wouldn’t need if we had moved already (Fuel, storage bills etc). Chris is tired because of the pregnancy, and I am tired due to the hours I work and the commute. We wake at 5am to feed the pets, eat breakfast and get me out of the door for a 7am start in Farnborough. I get home (on a good day) at around 7pm…so we don’t get to spend a lot of time together awake.
